After a week on trial with GBK in Kokkola, Finland, the club offered Mateusz Brela a contract for the 2016 campaign. After agreeing to personal terms, the paperwork was signed and Brela was registered with the club to begin playing in March.

“First of all, I’m thrilled to join GBK for the upcoming season,” Brela, 23, told SoccerViza.

“It’s an opportunity to fight for promotion, and the club has everything a player can ask for. I was impressed with how they take care of their players, and how the town is geared towards football. I can’t wait to move back next month to get the season started. It’s been a whirlwind over the past three weeks since getting the phone call to go to Finland. It’s a relief to get it all sorted out, and I’m happy to begin my journey at GBK.”

GBK finished 5th last season in their division, and aimed over the offseason to build up their roster to push for the promotion race in 2016.

“[Brela] is a left footed player with a professional attitude,” GBK coach Chris Corcoran commented. “He’s at a good level right now, and I know he will raise it further.”

Brela joins GBK from Korona Kielce in Poland, after completing university at Seton Hall in New Jersey after the 2014 season.

“I am very grateful to SoccerViza for trusting in my abilities after seeing me for only a couple of days,” Brela added. “It’s a solid brand, devoted to giving players an opportunity to excel. I can call myself a lucky one to be part of the SoccerViza Family.”
