CONFIRMED: Will Daniels Signs Contract With Grindavik
It was confirmed today that Will Daniels signed with Icelandic first division club Grindavik for the 2016 season. After impressing with KF Aegir in the second division last season, Will’s services were sought after in three different leagues, before choosing to play with Grindavik.

After two weeks of negotiation, Will Daniels has officially signed with Grindavik of the Icelandic first division. Grindavik is a club that has spent 17 of its past 21 seasons in Iceland’s top flight, before being relegated to the first division in 2012.

After missing promotion last season, the club is doubling its efforts in 2016 to get back to the Premier League, and that means bringing in one of the top goal scorers from the second division last season.

“I’m happy, and relieved. The stress is off because now it’s final and I can worry about football now,” Will told SoccerViza.

In 18 games last season, a campaign limited due to a minor knee injury, Will scored 12 goals, leading his team and finishing third in the league. With Aegir, Will adjusted to the Icelandic game and got his feet under him to make his mark in 2016.

“Aegir prepared me in a way that reading and watching tapes can’t. I really learned about Icelandic football and how they play here. I know how the coaches like things done, and I think it got me mentally ready with what I need to do to prepare for this season.”

Now that the paperwork is behind him, Will has turned his sights forward to getting the season underway with Grindavik. Having passed his physical and completed his first full training session with the club, it’s business. With his first Cup game on Friday against Haukur, Will will be able to test his mettle against first division competition for the first time, before the team goes to Spain for their final pre-season camp.

“I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what the rest of the league looks like in terms of talent, the skillsets of first division players, and seeing the tactics that other teams have. I know the play will be faster, and I’m looking forward to my gelling with my new teammates to get adjusted to that. The team seems really good so far, so I’m excited to see how things turn out.”

In going up a level in play, there are new personal goals. Staying fit for the whole season as at the top of his list, followed by the desire to take the lead in his team’s goal scoring output. But while scoring goals is a priority, Will recognizes the necessity to do whatever it takes, to answer any call to help edge out results for his club.

“First and foremost, I’m going to maintain my fitness and make sure I stay healthy this season. definitely to be one of the top scorers on my team and contribute day in, day out. I want to make an impact on the league and do anything I can to help my team win, whether it’s at left back, right mid, or striker. I will play whatever role my team needs in order for me to help get a result.”

After last season’s success with Aegir, will enlisted the help of SoccerViza to secure him a second year in Iceland, and it worked out well for the striker, earning him the opportunity to play in the first division with a club that is eager to see him perform.

“SoccerViza has treated me like family from the beginning. It’s an unbelievable company to work with, and Chris [McCollum] did a great job to find what I was looking for and put me in the right situation for this year. They make my life easy and I’m very excited to have a special relationship with them. I look forward to continuing that relationship in the future.”

Good luck in 2016, Will!
