CONFIRMED: Eckenrode Signs Contract With Aegir
After successfully trialing with KF Aegir in Iceland’s second division, Jannik Eckenrode has signed a professional contract with the Thorlokshofn based club. The former George Mason captain will report for duty with his new home in April to see out the 2016 season.

Another SoccerViza client has signed a professional contract this week after clearing paperwork with KF Aegir.

Eckenrode, 22, a midfielder from George Mason University, finished his university career as team captain, starting in 55 out of his 57 games with the Patriots, totalling 11 goals and 9 assists. As a freshman at Radford University, he added three goals and five assists to bring his collegiate total to 14 and 14.

Eckenrode impressed at SoccerViza’s winter transfer window combine in Orlando, using a three goal performance in his final game to eventually receive a trial offer and then a contract offer from Aegir.

“I am very excited for Jannik; he showed during his amateur career that he has a special ability, and showed it again while on trial with Aegir,” SoccerViza Player Relations Director Christopher McCollum commented.

“Even though this is the first contract he’s signed, Jannik is an experienced player, growing with DC United’s academy program and spending last summer in Germany with fourth and fifth division clubs. Jannik could be a special talent to keep an eye on in the future, and I’m thrilled that he’s chosen SoccerViza to work with.”

In joining KF Aegir, Jannik will be teamed up with fellow SoccerViza combine attendee Daniel Kuczynski and tasked with moving the team closer to promotion this season. A powerful midfielder who can transition from a ball-winning 6, to a playmaking 10, his versatility will be key as the club tries to dig out results against stiff competition.

“I’m looking forward to working hard and making an immediate impact,” Eckenrode commented to SoccerViza.
“I know that it’s the little details that are going to help me stand out this season, to do the things that need to get done to get results for the club and fight for promotion. And if I do those little things, I’m confident that it’ll get me started on a long and successful career.”

Jannik will report for duty to Iceland next month to finish pre-season with the club before kicking off against Sindri on May 7.
