SoccerViza FC did not start in Costa Rica. It started with a player who never had a mentor, a combine circuit built on honesty, a youth club in Connecticut that grew from 70 kids to 1,000, and a decision to leave everything behind for something bigger. This is how we got here.
SoccerViza FC no comenzó en Costa Rica. Comenzó con un jugador que nunca tuvo un mentor, un circuito de combines construido sobre la honestidad, un club juvenil en Connecticut que creció de 70 niños a 1,000, y la decisión de dejarlo todo por algo más grande. Así es como llegamos hasta aquí.

Giuseppe “Joe” Funicello was still playing professionally in Iceland when he founded SoccerViza. He had broken into the game through persistence, self-education, and relentless work — with no mentor, no roadmap, no one explaining how the industry really works. SoccerViza was built to provide the guidance he never had. He started by running 3-day professional combines across the US, bringing real scouts and decision-makers into one room so players were actually evaluated, not just sold a dream. In an industry full of empty promises, Joe led with credibility because he had been through the scams himself.

Había llegado al juego profesional a través de la persistencia, la autoformación y el trabajo incansable — sin mentor, sin hoja de ruta, sin nadie que le explicara cómo funciona realmente la industria. SoccerViza fue construido para brindar la guía que él nunca tuvo. Comenzó organizando combines profesionales de 3 días en Estados Unidos, trayendo ojeadores y directivos reales a un mismo lugar para que los jugadores fueran realmente evaluados, no solo les vendieran un sueño. En una industria llena de promesas vacías, Joe lideró con credibilidad porque él mismo había vivido las estafas.

When Joe met Cecilia, she saw the opportunity he was missing. She did not come from football — she brought P&L discipline, budgeting, and operational structure. Together they launched SoccerViza FC as a youth program in Norwalk, Connecticut. In two and a half years it grew from 70 to 1,000 players and became one of the most recognized programs in the state. But scale alone was not the goal. They wanted a system that connected training directly to professional pathways. That pursuit led them to Costa Rica.
Cuando Joe conoció a Cecilia, ella vio la oportunidad que él no estaba viendo. No venía del fútbol — trajo disciplina financiera, presupuestos y estructura operativa. Juntos lanzaron SoccerViza FC como un programa juvenil en Norwalk, Connecticut. En dos años y medio creció de 70 a 1,000 jugadores y se convirtió en uno de los programas más reconocidos del estado. Pero la escala por sí sola no era la meta. Querían un sistema que conectara el entrenamiento directamente con caminos profesionales. Esa búsqueda los llevó a Costa Rica.

Puerto Viejo Se Convierte en Hogar
Joe and Cecilia moved to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast and built a year-round Pro Player Development Center from scratch. Daily professional-level training, international residency, education on contracts and career strategy, and honest evaluation — including telling players when the path may not be for them. Roughly 400 players per year came through from around the world. They founded SVFC Talamanca as a professional club in Costa Rica’s football pyramid and transformed the level of football on the entire East Coast.
Joe y Cecilia se mudaron a Puerto Viejo de Talamanca en la costa caribe de Costa Rica y construyeron un Centro de Desarrollo Profesional de Jugadores desde cero. Entrenamiento diario a nivel profesional, residencia internacional, educación sobre contratos y estrategia de carrera, y evaluación honesta — incluyendo decirle a los jugadores cuando el camino podría no ser para ellos. Aproximadamente 400 jugadores por año pasaron de todo el mundo. Fundaron SVFC Talamanca como un club profesional en la pirámide del fútbol costarricense y transformaron el nivel del fútbol en toda la Costa Este.
Competing for Promotion
Compitiendo por el Ascenso
SVFC competed for promotion every season, with the strongest run reaching the quarterfinals of the promotion playoffs. Local players who had never had a structured pathway began reaching the First Division and the national team. Players from the Development Center were signed directly to the professional team, and from there moved to clubs in Europe, Asia, South America, and across the Americas. The system was working. 400+ players placed professionally. The club was ours.
SVFC compitió por el ascenso cada temporada, con la mejor campaña llegando a los cuartos de final de los playoffs de ascenso. Jugadores locales que nunca habían tenido una vía estructurada comenzaron a llegar a la Primera División y la selección nacional. Jugadores del Centro de Desarrollo fueron firmados directamente al equipo profesional, y desde ahí se movieron a clubes en Europa, Asia, Sudamérica y toda América. El sistema estaba funcionando. Más de 400 jugadores colocados profesionalmente. El club era nuestro.
The Romania Chapter
El Capítulo de Rumania
We left Costa Rica to invest in FC Olimpia Satu Mare in Romania, believing Europe would expand the ceiling. We signed 18+ players from our Development Center to the professional team and placed over 60 players across pro leagues worldwide in a single summer. But stepping into someone else’s brand taught us the hardest lesson: control and culture matter more than geography. Leaving Costa Rica was the mistake. So we came back.
Dejamos Costa Rica para invertir en FC Olimpia Satu Mare en Rumania, creyendo que Europa expandiría el techo. Firmamos a más de 18 jugadores de nuestro Centro de Desarrollo al equipo profesional y colocamos a más de 60 jugadores en ligas profesionales de todo el mundo en un solo verano. Pero entrar en la marca de otro nos enseñó la lección más dura: el control y la cultura importan más que la geografía. Dejar Costa Rica fue el error. Así que volvimos.
Coming Home
De Vuelta a Casa
SVFC returns to Puerto Viejo with everything we learned and nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves. The Development Center is open. The professional team is competing. The global network is stronger than ever. Now we are building what was always the vision: a club we control, in a place we call home, for people who were never given a chance.
SVFC regresa a Puerto Viejo con todo lo que aprendimos y sin nada que demostrarle a nadie excepto a nosotros mismos. El Centro de Desarrollo está abierto. El equipo profesional está compitiendo. La red global es más fuerte que nunca. Ahora estamos construyendo lo que siempre fue la visión: un club que controlamos, en un lugar que llamamos hogar, para personas a las que nunca se les dio una oportunidad.

Our playing philosophy is our identity. Win or lose, SoccerViza FC plays attacking, entertaining football. We believe that if you’re asking people to come watch — whether they’re locals or tourists who’ve never seen a Costa Rican third-division game — the product on the pitch has to be worth their evening.
Nuestra filosofía de juego es nuestra identidad. Gane o pierda, SoccerViza FC juega un fútbol ofensivo y entretenido. Creemos que si le pedimos a la gente que venga a ver — ya sean locales o turistas que nunca han visto un partido de tercera división costarricense — el producto en la cancha tiene que valer su noche.
Every player who wears the shirt has earned their place through talent, dedication, and character.

Local players who don’t receive salaries get exposure, structure, and a legitimate pathway. Several have reached the First Division.
Jugadores locales que no reciben salarios obtienen exposición, estructura y una vía legítima. Varios han llegado a la Primera División.
